WoS health board shortlisted for FutureScot AI Challenge

A West of Scotland health board has been shortlisted for a competition that encourages organisations to use AI to solve real-world problems.

NHS Forth Valley, which is one of six health boards that make up the West of Scotland Innovation Hub, was named on the shortlist for the FutureScot AI Challenge, in association with Storm ID.

Its application was on harnessing AI technology to improve both the processing of complaints data and to draw out insights and learnings for service improvement.

Three successful entrants, which also include the Scottish Parliament and National Records of Scotland, will now progress to the next stage of the competition.

They will all receive a workshop from Storm ID to develop ‘proof of concepts’, which will be showcased at the Digital Scotland conference in Edinburgh on November 26.

The winner will be announced at the event and offered £20,000 of free technical support from Storm ID to progress their proof of concept towards potential future adoption.

Wendy Nimmo, Innovation Lead at NHS Forth Valley, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted to understand how AI can support us to improve outcomes for people who access our services.”

Paul McGinness, founder of Edinburgh-headquartered Storm ID, said: “Congratulations to the three organisations shortlisted for the FutureScot AI Challenge, in association with Storm ID.

“We were delighted by the response levels from Scotland’s public sector agencies. It just goes to show that there is a huge groundswell of support to try and use AI for the public good.

“The range and quality of applications made it a difficult task for our judging panel, but we reached consensus that the three selected for the final stage were highly innovative and potentially transformative in the way they deliver services to citizens.”
